Farmers dig in after border clash with cops

Farmers in protest would remain stationed along the Punjab-Haryana data-border till their next announcement regarding the agitation is made on february 29. The farmers are scheduled to march with candles today, and on sunday there will be lectures.
 
On february 26, the farmers also want to set fire to the effigies of the World Trade Organisation and the Centre. They said that throughout the course of the next two days, SKM (Non-Political) and KMM will have many meetings. The farmers postponed the 'Dilli Chalo' march for two days on wednesday, february 21, following skirmishes in Khanauri that resulted in the death of one protestor and the injuries of around twelve police officers.
 

• Sarwan Singh Pandher, the leader of the farmers, declared on friday that they would keep pressing the Centre for their numerous requests and would remain at the two protest locations on the Punjab-Haryana data-border till february 29, at which point the next course of action would be determined. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), who are leading the current agitation at the Shambhu and Khanauri data-borders, decided to this effect on friday night.
 

• The farmers announced till this past friday that they would host seminars on topics pertaining to farmers on february 25 and organise a candle march on february 24. The farmers also said that on february 26, they would set fire to the World Trade Organisation and the Center's effigies, and that over the course of the next two days, they would have many SKM (Non-Political) and KMM gatherings.
 

• Following skirmishes in Khanauri on wednesday that resulted in the death of a protester and the injuries of around twelve police officers, the farmer leaders decided to postpone the 'Dilli Chalo' march for two days. Clashes at the Khanauri protest site on wednesday resulted in the death of bathinda resident Shubhkaran Singh (21), and the injuries of 12 police officers. The incident happened as a few farmers who were protesting tried to get near barriers. The farmers announced after the event that they would stage a candle march at the two data-border crossing locations on february 24.
