With "Jailer," superstar Rajinikanth made an incredible comeback, breaking records in tamil cinema with a box office haul of nearly 600Cr. But his most recent movie, "Lal Salaam," which was helmed by his daughter aishwarya and in which he made a cameo, was a complete disaster. The film failed to create enthusiasm due to inadequate advertising and a bad choice of genre.
Its box office hopes were further destroyed by unfavorable word of mouth. It was a complete disaster in Telugu, unable to recoup its expenses. It is probably going to be a huge failure in Tamil. Its box office performance was astonishingly low, especially in AP&TS, where it battled to reach ₹50 Lakhs. It's humiliating that Nizam's lifetime share might not even come close to 12 lakhs. Perhaps even reruns of his previous hits could bring him more money.
With terrible performances all around, "Lal Salaam" is Rajinikanth's biggest failure in his five-decade career. The movie has reportedly made Rs 11 crore so far, which is a little amount compared to the opening day receipts of the majority of Rajinikanth's flicks, according to trade website Sacnilk. On its first day of release, Lal Salaam made almost Rs 3.55 crore. But the picture didn't benefit from the weekend, as its box office performance on saturday and sunday declined. Over the weekend, the film barely made a little over Rs 6.60 crore. Any prospects of a rebound have been dashed by the sunday slump.
