Israel - Hamas War : Israel says it found Hamas tunnel at Gaza's Al Shifa Hospital, UN aid stopped

SIBY JEYYA
The Israeli military announced on thursday (local time) that it discovered a Hamas tunnel shaft in an outdoor section of Al Shifa Hospital, Gaza's largest medical institution. The UN Palestinian refugee agency, on the other hand, announced that no help will be delivered to Palestinians in the besieged enclave due to severe fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hamas militants.

On Wednesday, israel raided the Al Shifa Hospital, claiming that Hamas was using it as a control hub beneath the medical facility. The israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported it discovered massive stockpiles of weapons, ammunition, and explosives at Al Shifa and Al Quds Hospital, both in Gaza.

Here are the top developments of the Israel-Hamas war:

1. The US, Israel's ally, stated it would neither disclose or explain intelligence on Hamas activity at Al Shifa Hospital. "I am not going to talk about specific intelligence that may pass between the two of us," white house spokeswoman john Kirby told Reuters when asked if israel supplied any intelligence on its Al Shifa raid.

2. Hamas condemned the Israeli strike on Al Shifa Hospital and denied that the hospital was used for military reasons. According to the organization, it "was a repetition of a blatantly false narrative, demonstrated by the weak and ridiculous performances of the occupation army spokesman".

3. In an interview with CBS, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that his government had "strong indications" that several captives were being held by Hamas in Al Shifa Hospital. He justified the raid by saying, "And it is one of the reasons why we entered the hospital."

"If they were, they were taken out," he continued.

Netanyahu said that israel has information about the hostages. He went on to state, "The less I say about it, the better."

4. Communication services in Gaza have been restored after all energy sources supporting the two telecom providers ran out. In addition, due to a lack of gasoline supply, UNRWA, the UN organization for Palestinian refugees, stated that it was not feasible to make relief deliveries to Gaza via the Rafah data-border crossing since it could not communicate with the truck convoys. israel has barred gasoline shipments into Gaza, claiming that Hamas will use it to bolster its military operations against Israeli soldiers.

5. Palestinians bore the brunt of Israel's ground invasion against the enclave, which was launched in response to Hamas's surprise attack on israel on october 7. The strike on Gaza's Al Shifa Hospital is part of Israel's ground campaign to destroy Hamas and its terror infrastructure, including tunnels. According to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, the conflict has taken around 1,200 fatalities in israel and more than 11,000 lives in Gaza.
