In the US state of California, a 45-year-old man, considered a 'suspect', has been taken into custody in the abduction of a four-member Sikh family, including an 8-month-old child. Officials said the victims were still missing. The family, originally from Harsi village of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, was abducted in Merced County on Monday. The family members have been identified as eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her mother, 27-year-old Jasleen Kaur, father 36-year-old Jasdeep Singh and 39-year-old Amandeep Singh.

The family's vehicle was found in a burnt condition late on monday night, on the basis of which the authorities determined that the four had been abducted. Intelligence officials received information tuesday morning that a victim's bank card was used at an ATM in Merced County, according to a news release.

The Merced County Sheriff's office said in a statement, "Investigators obtained a photograph of a person doing bank transactions that looked very similar to the person in the picture from the abduction site."

The suspect, Jesus Manuel Salgado, "attempted to take his own life" before the agencies arrived and is currently "in critical custody and undergoing treatment." Jasdeep and Amandeep's father Dr. Randhir Singh and mother Kripal Kaur are stunned by this abduction.
