Thor: Love & Thunder Trailer Reveals How Big The Guardians' Role Really Is

The Guardians of the Galaxy are hinted at in the Thor: love & Thunder teaser. Thor Odinson has arguably had the most significant character arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His heart's ambition when he was originally featured in the first Thor film was to succeed his father as the Asgardian war-leader. In Avengers: Endgame, he elected to relinquish his leadership to Valkyrie.

Thor left Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy, despite Star-displeasure Lord's with the addition to his ship's crew because he regarded the god of Thunder to be a competition. Given that Thor was last seen journeying through the stars with them, this has naturally led to a lot of conjecture about the Guardians' roles in Thor: love & Thunder. Official merchandising dubbed Thor's new look "Ravager Thor," implying that he has either left the Guardians to join a larger group known as the Ravagers - or that the Guardians and the Ravagers have joined forces.

The Guardians of the Galaxy appear to play a big role in the opening act of Thor: love & Thunder, assisting Thor as he tries to figure out his new place in the galaxy, according to the teaser. After this moment, Thor appears to split up with the Guardians, possibly as a result of Peter Quill's suggestion that he figure it out best by spending time with the people he cares about. This appears to prompt Thor to return to New Asgard on Earth, where he will go on a mission with Korg that will undoubtedly lead him to confront the villain of Thor: love & Thunder, Gorr the God-Butcher.
