Bhoothakalam Movie Review - A Gripping Psychological Horror

G GOWTHAM
From the beginning of the film, an elderly woman with gleaming white hair enters a room and sits still by her sleeping grandson. We don't know if it's the grandchild at the time; he's just a young man who wakes up in the middle of the night and stares uncomfortably at the white-haired mom. Even though there is no harsh background music or disturbing sounds, you are suspicious about the entire scene. However, the young man calmly informs his mother in the next room that grandmother is awake, and you breathe a sigh of relief. Then it's not a ghost. However, as the film progresses, your suspicions appear to be confirmed.

Bhoothakaalam is a well-crafted film with meticulous scripting and stunning performances. rahul Sadasivan, the movie's writer and director, has done an excellent job with his research. The story's most appealing feature is the creation of a full-length character of a middle-aged lady. Casting Revathy in the part is also appealing.

For a tranquil time, the film continues in this very familiar household environment (stress on the word peaceful). The mother and her son aren't the best of friends. She works as a schoolteacher and manages the household on her meagre earnings. He is not a spoiled brat who is withering away; he has completed his education, but his mother will not let him accept a job that is too far away from her. Arguments over the dining table, walking away, and angry slamming of doors are all too frequent household situations for many young people who are obliged to stay close to their parents.

In making the film, filmmaker rahul leaves a lot of avenues open. He lets you interpret the events whatever you want. The film may appear to be a psychological thriller at times, and you may connect it to mental health difficulties. In another case, it could be completely supernatural. A third interpretation is one that is solely concerned with relationships. Those who loathe horror films should be informed that, while the movie is well-made, it may cause them insomnia.
