World Braille Day: Lost Sight at 3, History at 16!!!
This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the French teacher who invented Braille.
Let us tell you today on his birth anniversary, the story of this messiah...
However, in 1 accident at the age of 3, his eyes became infected and Braille lost his sight completely.
Even after this, he did not give up and became the Messiah for crores of people like himself.
Braille continued his studies even after losing his eyes, and after receiving a scholarship he went to the Royal Institute for Blind Youth, where he developed a touch code to help people with blindness read and write.
The idea of creating Braille came after Louis met an army captain, Charles Barbier, who had developed a special cryptography script for the army, allowing soldiers to read messages even in the dark of night.
Later, Braille was also inspired by this and started making Braille script. He was only 16 years old when he invented it.
In this, the characters are represented by a pattern of raised dots felt with fingers. So that visually impaired people can read easily.
Earlier Braille script was based on 12 dots. However, then it did not have punctuation, numbers, and math symbols. Later Louis invented 64 letters and symbols using 06 dots instead of 12.
Louis Braille died on 06 january 1832 at the age of 43. The Braille script was recognized as authentic in 1868, 16 years after his death.
After this, on his 200th birth anniversary, the government of india had also issued a postage stamp in 2009.
With this invention of Louis Braille, the dream of reading and writing crores of blind people was fulfilled.
In his memory, the date of World Braille Day was chosen on the day of his birth anniversary. Its proposal was introduced in the United Nations General assembly in november 2018.
After this, the first World Braille Day was celebrated on 4 january 2019. Since then it is celebrated every year all over the world.
