During its theatrical run, Thalapathi received critical praise and was a big economic success; the movie was then remade in kannada as Annavru.
Dhruvam: It stars mammootty, Jayaram, suresh Gopi, Vikram, Gouthami, and tiger Prabhakar and is directed by Joshiy. mammootty stood out for his outstanding portrayal as the main character, narasimha Mannadiyar. In Dhruvam, gouthami was partnered with mammootty for the first time. The picture was a box office smash, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
