The decision by the public transport agency follows an increase in passenger traffic as a result of the Mahalakshmi initiative, which allows women and transgender people to travel for free on TSRTC buses across the state.
TSRTC MD VC Sajjanar stated that the decision was made because bus conductors are taking longer to issue Family-24 and T-6 tickets as a result of the Mahalakshmi scheme's increased traffic. "In order to issue these tickets, conductors must verify passengers' identity cards and enter their age, which causes delays and increases passenger journey times." To minimise this difficulty, the tickets will not be given beginning tomorrow," he explained.
Announcing this on platform X (formerly Twitter), TSRTC Managing Director, VC Sajjanar, wrote, “In order to issue Family-24 and T-6 tickets, the conductors have to see the identity cards of the passengers. They have to enter their age. Due to the increase in traffic due to the Mahalakshmi scheme, the conductors are taking a lot of time to issue Family-24 and T-6 tickets. As a result, the journey time of the services is also increasing.”
