PM Matru Vandana Yojana: Now Available for Second Pregnancy – Updated Rules

Balasahana Suresh
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a flagship maternity benefit program of the government of India, has been updated with new rules. This program provides financial support to pregnant and lactating women to ensure safe childbirth and improved maternal and child health.

Key Update: Benefit for Second Child

  • Earlier, PMMVY benefits were only available for the first living child.
  • Under the new guidelines, eligible women can now receive benefits even for the second child.
  • This change aims to provide financial assistance and nutrition support to more mothers, especially in underserved areas.
Eligibility Criteria

To avail benefits under PMMVY:

The beneficiary must be a pregnant or lactating woman (including those who have given birth recently).

Must be a resident of India.

Must be enrolled in Anganwadi centers or approved health facilities for antenatal care.

Should provide proof of pregnancy and childbirth (medical certificates, hospital records, or documents issued by health workers).

Benefit Amount

  • Under PMMVY, eligible mothers receive a cash incentive of 6,000 per pregnancy.
  • This amount is paid in three installments:
First installment: After early registration of pregnancy.

Second installment: After at least one antenatal check-up.

Third installment: After the child’s birth and immunization.

How to Apply

Visit the nearest Anganwadi center or government health facility.

Fill the PMMVY application form and submit necessary documents: ID proof, pregnancy certificate, and bank account details.

The benefits are directly transferred to the mother’s bank account.

Conclusion

The new rule allowing benefits for the second child makes PMMVY more inclusive and supportive for mothers. It ensures that more women get financial assistance for safe pregnancy, proper nutrition, and healthcare, helping improve maternal and child health outcomes across the country.
