The Awami Ittehad party has officially approached the delhi high court for bail of jailed Baramulla mp Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer. The party says that the high court has listed engineer Rashid's bail plea for hearing on january 23.

AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said, "This move is part of unwavering efforts towards ensuring justice to our leader. The long detention raises serious concerns about fairness and due process."

Let us tell you that earlier the delhi court had refused to pass an order on december 24, 2024 on the regular bail plea of the Baramulla mp under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2017 terror-funding case.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Chander Jeet Singh of patiala House court had rejected the application filed by the accused seeking an order on the bail plea. A statement issued by AIP said, "Rashid has always been the voice of the marginalized people. He has supported the democratic aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The MP's continuous imprisonment is extremely worrying. It is also an insult to the principles of democracy and justice."

AIP approached HC for bail of engineer Rashid Rashid Rashid's name came up during the investigation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was arrested by the NIA in 2018 for allegedly providing funds to terrorist groups and separatists in the kashmir Valley. The NIA had filed a chargesheet in this case against many people including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder hafiz saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in 2022 after being found guilty of the charges.
