Taika Waititi Forgot About Natalie Portman's Star Wars Role

Thor: Thunder and love Taika Waititi, the film's writer and director, overlooked Natalie Portman's prequels role. Portman debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011's Thor, playing Jane Foster again in 2013's Thor: The Dark World. Jane returns as the Mighty Thor in Waititi's second MCU movie, which hits theatres this week, after missing Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok (and making an appearance in Avengers: Endgame via archival footage).

Portman played Padmé Amidala in George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy years before she proved herself worthy of Mjölnir. She was first presented in The Phantom Menace as the youthful queen of Naboo, and in Attack of the Clones she fell in love with Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), but in Revenge of the Sith she was killed giving birth to their child. Portman's role, among other things, is a key figure in the Star Wars canon as the mother of Luke and Leia. However, it appears that during their time together, Waititi overlooked this.

Waititi talked about working with Portman on love and Thunder during a recent interview with Rolling Stone. He had the chance to discuss his upcoming Star Wars film with Portman while they were both on production. But when Waititi inquired about Portman's desire to play the lead in that movie, he made a crucial discovery. Check out what he has to say about it below: What will you do next, Natalie questioned me? I said, "I'm attempting to work on something Star Wars-related. Have you ever wished you could appear in a Star Wars film? I've appeared in Star Wars films, she claimed. Those are the ones I overlooked. [Laughs]
