After many years of being limited to just messaging and media sharing,
WhatsApp Web has begun rolling out native voice and video calling support — meaning users can now
make calls directly from their browser without needing the desktop app.
Here’s what this means for users:✅
Calls from the browser:Users can now start
one-to-one voice and video calls directly in whatsapp Web by clicking the call icons in an individual chat — just like on mobile.✅
No desktop app required:This works right in the browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.), so you don’t need to install WhatsApp’s Windows/Mac applications to make calls.✅
Protected by encryption:All calls on whatsapp Web are
end-to-end encrypted, meaning only the call participants can hear/see the call content — just like on mobile apps.✅
Screen sharing is supported:During video calls, you can share your screen — a useful feature for work presentations or collaboration.
🔄 Rollout & Availability- The feature is currently rolling out gradually and is available initially to beta program users.
- Wider release to all whatsapp Web users is expected in the coming weeks.
👥 Group Calling Coming SoonAlthough individual calls are live,
group voice and video calling is still under development and expected to support multiple participants (potentially up to 32) in future updates.
