Apple has announced that the iphone 15 series boasts an extended battery cycle lifespan compared to previous models. Updated documentation from the Cupertino-based tech giant suggests that the iphone 15 series can maintain 80 percent of its battery capacity after twice as many charge cycles as its predecessors. Additionally, the forthcoming iOS 17.4 update will enable the latest smartphone models to display battery "health" within the Settings app, alongside charge cycle information.

The company has revised its battery and performance support document (via MacRumors) to include updated battery cycle lifespan data for the iphone 15 series, which was unveiled last fall. According to the document, "Batteries of iphone 15 models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions."

The extended longevity of batteries is indeed welcomed news, considering their natural degradation over time. This is especially noteworthy as iphone 14 users have begun to report unexpected declines in battery health within less than a year of usage.

However, apple also states that iphone 14 and earlier models will retain 80 percent of their charge capacity at 500 charge cycles.

Apple is currently promoting the 1,000-cycle figure across both iOS and its website, stating that it is achievable under "ideal conditions." This is a departure from their previous advertising, where they promised 500 cycles under "normal conditions." The term "normal conditions" has now been replaced with "ideal," even when referring to older iphone models.

If you have an iphone 15 series smartphone, navigate to "Settings" and select General > About to access detailed battery statistics including manufacture date, first use date, and charging cycle count. These details are not available on iphone 14 and older models. With the upcoming iOS 17.4 update, expected in the coming days, you will find these battery statistics in a different section within the Settings app.
