Invoking Section 66D of the Information technology Act, 2000, which deals with "punishment for cheating by personation by using a computer resource," is the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. According to this clause, a person found guilty of utilising communication devices or computer resources to commit personation for the purpose of cheating might be sentenced to up to three years in jail and fined up to one lakh rupees.

Later, it was discovered that Zara Patel, a British-Indian influencer, was the real star of the video. Her data-face had been altered to resemble Mandanna using deepfake technology.
