The central government-run telecom department has approved reliance jio to provide broadband connectivity through satellite without any cable connection in India.
With this, reliance jio has officially entered this segment to compete with Airtel. For this service, reliance jio not only created a separate company called jio Satellite Communications Ltd (JSCL) but through this company, it applied to the Telecom Department to get a Global mobile Personal Communications by Satellite services license.
Reliance jio is the 2nd company approved by the Telecom Department of the central government to provide Internet connectivity through satellite in India. The first is Airtel's investment-backed OneWeb, the country's 2nd largest telecom company. Elon Musk was rejected due to space code violations.
In early 2022, mukesh Ambani's akash Ambani-led jio Platforms formed a 51:49 joint venture with Luxembourg-based SES, a global satellite communications company, to form jio Space Technology.
Jio created a company called Space technology to provide internet service through satellite in India. Such service has created new opportunities not only in telecom service in india but also in the space research sector.
