A few days ago, twitter has released a list containing the names of countries that have demanded twitter to remove specific accounts for the content. 95% of the demand for deleting the account from these countries Japan, Russia, Turkey, india, and South Korea.


All accounts deleted from january to june 2021:

Twitter reported that governments around the world asked twitter to remove 196,878 accounts and their content. It is to be known that all these 43,387 demands made by the governments were legal. twitter also reported that the highest number of accounts were removed by governments on demand in the first half of last year and this number is the largest since 2012. In 2012, twitter released its transparency policy.


95% of accounts removed by five countries

A shocking thing has come out in the information given by twitter that Japan, Russia, Turkey, india, and south korea have made 95% of the demand for deleting the account. twitter said that on the demand of the governments, the company either stopped the function of the account or completely removed the reported content from the account. According to the social media company, it was 54% of the legal demands of the whole world.

'Twitter to meet governments' demands':

Releasing this list, Twitter's Vice President of Global Public Policy and Philanthropy, Sinead McSweeney, said that "this threat to privacy and the right to expression is very worrying and needs our utmost attention."
