In May 2018, Justin Langer was appointed head coach of the Australian men's cricket team. Langer announced his abrupt resignation from the coaching position last February, having a tenure of until june 2022. The Australian team won the 2021 t20 World Cup, but his departure raised various doubts despite the fact that the Australian team won the Ashes Cup in a row at Langer training.

Langer first said that the bitter experience and breakdown in the relationship with the Australian players was the reason for his resignation. But Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden and the late Shane Warne all spoke in support of Langer after learning that the Australian cricket Board had acted against Langer.

The controversy over richard Bradinston's interim chairman of the cricket Board of australia has led to Langer's resignation. "The first thing richard told me was to make you realize that all your fellow players in the media support you," Langer told the Web site.

To which I said, yes interim captain, those players are the heroes of Australian cricket. Values of Australian cricket. They are Australian cricket. Working in various parts of world cricket. Glad someone else came after me. The last 6 months of the last 12 years have been a happy one for me. We were able to overcome everything and had the energy. That’s what we focused on. I was happy except for the bad politics. politics is everywhere

Langer has announced

the appointment of Andrew McDonald as the new head coach of the Australian team. Daniel Vettor, Andre Provic and Michael de Vento have been appointed as assistant coaches.
