Lakhs of Devotees Bid Farewell to Lalbaugcha raja Ganesh in Mumbai
The immersion procession of Lalbaugcha Raja, Mumbai's iconic Ganesha idol, attracted lakhs of devotees as it made its way to Girgaon beach. The festivities began on september 17, the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi, with the idol being immersed in the arabian sea on september 18 around 10:30 am.
As always, the immersion drew a massive crowd, with visuals of the procession quickly going viral on social media. Notable attendees included Anant Ambani, non-executive director of reliance Industries, who participated in the visarjan at Girgaon Chowpatty.
By wednesday morning, over 37,000 idols of Ganesha and Gauri had been immersed in water bodies across the city, marking the end of the festival. The immersion processions, which began early Tuesday, continued smoothly throughout the night, as devotees flocked to various beaches, lakes, and artificial ponds.
In addition to Lalbaugcha Raja, other famous Ganesh mandals, including Chinchpoklicha Chintamani, also brought their idols for immersion. A total of 37,064 idols, including 5,762 from community groups, were immersed, with 11,713 placed in artificial ponds set up by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The BMC made extensive preparations for the immersion, deploying thousands of personnel, lifeguards, and emergency services to ensure safety. Over 24,000 police officers were stationed across mumbai for security and crowd management, alongside the State Reserve police Force and other response teams.
