The Mantalu bhogi (Fire)

People throw out clothing, wood, and other outdated and unwanted home things on Bhogi. These objects are thrown into the wood-and-cowdung-cake-fueled fire. The purpose of the "Bhogi mantalu" ritual is to focus on fresh starts by letting go of undesirable and outdated aspects of your life. Around the sacred fire, women recite mantras while donning fresh garments. In front of their home, they create a colourful and floral rangoli after cleaning it. Mango leaves and marigold garlands are also used by homeowners to adorn their homes. Additionally, it is claimed to clear the house of all bad energy and make room for good energy. In addition, a lot of agricultural waste is burned in the bonfire, which is meant to provide heat for the soon-to-end cold winter.

Pongal Panai and bhogi Pallu

Another custom observed on this day is "Pongal Panai," which involves purchasing new earthen pots, painting them, and then adorning them with flowers and mango leaves. Farmers in the villages dress up their cattle and give them prasad. On bhogi, people get together with their loved ones and friends to exchange happy bhogi greetings.

In addition, women use freshly selected fruits and rice to make a sweet treat known as "Bhogi pallu" for children. To symbolize the sweetness, joy, and good fortune of the season, residences are decorated with sugarcanes and other greenery.
