PM Ujjawala Yojana: Women Express Disappointment Over 45-Day Gas Subsidy

Balasahana Suresh
Beneficiaries of the PM Ujjwala Yojana, the flagship initiative to provide LPG connections to women from below-poverty households, have expressed disappointment regarding the 45-day gas subsidy. Many women feel that the subsidy duration is insufficient for regular household use.

Concerns Among Beneficiaries

Women using the LPG connections have stated that the 45-day subsidy does not cover the full monthly cooking requirements, forcing them to either purchase additional refills at full cost or revert to traditional fuels like firewood, which the scheme aims to replace.

Government Response

Officials from the Ministry have assured that the government is aware of these concerns and is evaluating ways to improve the scheme’s efficiency. The focus remains on ensuring that LPG connections reach every eligible household while balancing budgetary considerations.

Impact on Households

The subsidy issue has highlighted the challenges data-faced by low-income households in accessing affordable cooking fuel. Social activists have called for a review of the subsidy duration to better meet the daily needs of beneficiaries.
