Gaurav Gogoi, President of the assam Pradesh congress Committee (APCC), has been fielded from Jorhat Assembly constituency.

The congress has released its first list of 42 candidates for the upcoming assam assembly elections.

A three-time lok sabha mp and Deputy leader of the Opposition, Gogoi will contest a state assembly election for the first time.

The party has projected him as its chief ministerial data-face against BJP’s Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.

Gogoi thanked congress President mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson sonia gandhi, and leader of Opposition rahul gandhi for their faith in him.

He also expressed gratitude to priyanka gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, and Jitendra Alwar for their continued guidance.

On Instagram, Gogoi said he was “grateful for their faith in my abilities.”

He remembered his late father, former assam cm tarun Gogoi, saying he taught him the meaning of being Assamese and a Congressman.

He thanked the people of Jorhat lok sabha constituency and his family for their constant support.

Calling for change, he urged people to dream again of “Natunbor Aksom” (New Greater Assam).

Congress is part of the assam Sommelito Morcha, formed to challenge the BJP.

Seat-sharing talks have been held with the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Left parties.

Currently, the bjp holds 64 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

Congress has data-faced defeat in the last two assembly elections, making this contest crucial.

Senior leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, karnataka Deputy cm DK Shivakumar, and Madhusudan Mistry have been deployed to strengthen the campaign.
