Sunetra Pawar took oath as Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister on Saturday.

She became the first woman to hold the post in the state’s history.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.

Maharashtra governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath.

The event marked a significant political moment for the nationalist congress party (NCP).

Key Leaders Present at the Swearing-In Ceremony

Chief minister devendra fadnavis attended the ceremony.

Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde was also present.

Senior leaders, including Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Praful Patel, attended.

Visuals showed the governor arriving at Lok Bhavan alongside fadnavis and Shinde.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several MLAs and party workers.

Ajit Pawar’s Death and Leadership Transition

Earlier in the day, Sunetra Pawar was unanimously elected leader of the legislative party.

The party faction was earlier led by the late Ajit Pawar.

Ajit Pawar died earlier this week in a tragic small aircraft crash near Baramati.

The aircraft reportedly crashed during its second landing attempt after a go-around.

Two pilots, a flight attendant, and Ajit Pawar’s security officer were also killed.

The Aircraft accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is probing the incident.

NCP Split and Ongoing Merger Talks

In 2023, ajit pawar led a faction of ncp MLAs into the Mahayuti government.

The alliance included the bjp and the shiv sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.

This move caused a split between ajit pawar and sharad pawar factions.

Recently, both factions contested municipal elections together in pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The joint contest hinted at improving relations and possible reunification talks.

Electoral history and Political Signals

Sunetra Pawar contested the 2024 lok sabha elections from Baramati.

She lost to supriya Sule, her sister-in-law from the sharad pawar faction.

She was later elected to the rajya sabha in june 2024.

Sharad Pawar stated he was unaware of her decision to accept the deputy cm post.

He confirmed ajit pawar had been keen on uniting both ncp factions.
