Stop Having Useless Séx If You Want to Get Pregnant: The Harsh Reality of the Fertile Window

Trying to conceive can transform the most fun, intimate part of your relationship into a high-pressure performance laced with anxiety. One wrong move – or so you think – and another cycle goes down the drain. If you're lying awake wondering if you're doing it "right," these are the top five questions that haunt nearly every couple trying for a baby. The answers might surprise you – and save you from wasting precious time and energy.

1. When are the best days to have sex when trying to conceive?
Forget the idea that doing it every single day of the month improves your odds. Your body only offers a short fertile window each cycle – roughly five days leading up to ovulation, with the highest pregnancy chances hitting the day before and the actual day of ovulation. Miss this window, and you're out of luck. Learning to accurately track ovulation isn't optional; it's essential.

2. How often should you have sex during the fertile window?
Every day or every other day is perfect during those key days. But pushing for multiple rounds daily or forcing sex when you're both exhausted often backfires. For many couples, the constant pressure leads to sexual burnout, performance anxiety, and even dysfunction. Timing beats quantity every time.

3. Does position matter?
Not one bit. There's zero evidence that any particular sexual position increases your chances. Choose whatever feels good and natural for you and your partner. Stop overcomplicating it.

4. How long should you wait to get up after sex?
Don't bother. Sperm reach the cervical canal in mere seconds. Staying flat on your back with legs in the air makes zero proven difference. Do whatever's comfortable – no awkward post-sex rituals required.

5. Should you use a lubricant?
Most lubricants are sperm assassins. Regular water- and oil-based ones seriously impair motility. If you need one, stick to specially formulated fertility-friendly options. They won't boost your chances, but they won't actively destroy them either.
