Union minister kiren rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on saturday (June 5, 2025) participated in the birthday celebrations of the 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh). This visit has taken place at a time when a few days ago Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama had revealed the plan for his successor (reincarnation), to which china had reacted strongly.According to the Gregorian calendar, the birthday of the Dalai Lama is celebrated on 6 July. A day before this visit of Union minister Rijiju, china had advised india to be cautious on issues related to Tibet. China had said that this could affect the efforts to improve India-China relations. This statement came from the Chinese Foreign Ministry at a time when Kiren Rijiju said that the successor of the Dalai Lama will be decided by him as per his wish.Rijiju's statement is being considered as a response to China's statement in which they claimed that the successor of the Dalai Lama should be selected with the approval of Beijing.Ministry of External Affairs clarified its standThe Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday clarified that the government of india has no official stand on the process of selection of the successor of the Dalai Lama. MEA spokesperson Randhir jaiswal said in a conversation with the media, "We have seen the report of the statement of Dalai Lama ji, in which he has talked about the continuation of the institution of Dalai Lama. The government of india does not comment on the processes related to religious belief and faith." He further said, "Religious freedom has been respected for everyone in india and we will stick to this principle in future as well."Dalai Lama had said this big thingRecently, Dalai Lama had said that his successor will be chosen by the Gaden Phodrang Trust established in India, which he himselfhas created. He made it clear that no other institution or country has the right to interfere in this. This statement is being considered a direct message to China, because china has been constantly claiming that the successor of Dalai Lama should be chosen with the approval of Beijing.
