Continuous decrease in complaints of dirty or torn bedrolls - North Western Railway
Perhaps clean, hygienic and high quality bedrolls are being provided in AC class coaches in all the trains operated by North Western Railway. According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, all the sheets and pillow covers are washed and ironed in the mechanized laundry after each use so that by giving clean bedrolls to the passengers, their comfortable, hygienic and safe journey can be ensured. He informed that mechanized laundries have been set up in Udaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Jaipur, jodhpur and Barmer. Their capacity is being continuously increased.
Meanwhile he informed that in october 2023, the capacity of clothes to be washed in these laundries has been increased from 20 tonnes per day to 56 tonnes per day. There is a plan to increase this capacity to 10 tonnes in january 2025 and 14 tonnes per day in march 2025. Captain Shashi kiran said that the washing of blankets, which was done once in three months in 2010, has been reduced to once in two months from 2010 and currently once in 30 days. He said that the Railways gives two sheets to every passenger in AC coaches, out of which one is used to spread on the seat and the other as a blanket cover. Apart from this, the temperature of the AC coach is also kept around 24 degrees Celsius so that there is no need for a blanket and the sheet is sufficient.
There is a continuous decrease in the complaints of unavailability of bedrolls and dirty or torn bedrolls on North Western Railway. Last year, between april 2023 and october 2023, a total of 5181 complaints were registered in the four divisions, whereas this year between april and october 2024, the number of complaints decreased by about 15 percent to only 4529. He told that sheets and blankets are also changed after some time and new linen sets are purchased.
