CM Naidu's 'Happy Diwali, Here’s Your Gas!
In a significant diwali gesture, chief minister Nara chandrababu naidu has announced that all eligible women will receive three domestic gas refills free of charge, starting from october 31. This initiative, part of an election promise by Naidu and the three-party alliance, is expected to cost the state exchequer approximately Rs 2,684 crore annually.
Eligible women will be able to start booking their free gas refills from october 24. To ensure a smooth process, the officials will transfer the subsidy amount directly to the women's bank accounts within two days of booking. The chief minister emphadata-sized the importance of a transparent distribution system, assuring that all eligible beneficiaries with LPG connections will receive their refills without any hitches.
Naidu reviewed the implementation strategies of the 'Deepam' scheme with civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar and representatives from major oil marketing companies, including IOC, BPC, and HPC, at a meeting in the Secretariat. Each domestic gas refill costs around Rs 876 in the retail market, with the central government providing a subsidy of Rs 25 per refill, bringing the net cost down to Rs 851.
The cm stated that initiatives like this aim to enhance the living standards of the poorer sections of society and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no eligible woman is excluded from the program. The Deepam scheme marks the first of several promises made by the telugu Desam-led government since taking office in June, where Naidu had already signed off on five key files to kickstart his governance.
This diwali gift is seen as a significant step toward improving the quality of life for many families, demonstrating the government’s focus on supporting women and enhancing household welfare.
