'Will help in the protection of cows'
Meanwhile, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a minister in the maharashtra government, said, "The maharashtra government has decided to give subsidy for indigenous cows in the cow shelters registered with the Gauseva Commission in Maharashtra. This will greatly help in the protection and rearing of indigenous cows in Maharashtra. This will also enable the cow shelters to function properly." Earlier on monday, a notification issued by the Agriculture, Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department of maharashtra said that other factors behind giving the cow the status of statehood include the importance of indigenous cow milk in human nutrition, use for Ayurvedic and Panchgavya treatment and use of manure made from cow dung in organic farming.

The official said that by taking this decision, the state government has also highlighted the agricultural benefits of cow dung.
