Prime minister Narendra Modi will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission by participating in the Swachh Bharat Diwas event on october 2. During this occasion, he will launch and lay the foundation for several sanitation and cleanliness projects valued at over ₹9,600 crore.
The Swachh Bharat Diwas event will highlight India’s sanitation achievements over the past decade and the recent "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO), Modi will attend the program at Vigyan Bhawan in New delhi around 10 AM on october 2, coinciding with the 155th gandhi Jayanti.
Among the projects being launched are initiatives worth over ₹6,800 crore aimed at improving urban water and sewage systems under the AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0 programs. Additionally, 10 projects worth over ₹1,550 crore will focus on enhancing water quality and waste management in the ganga basin under the National Mission for Clean Ganga. There will also be 15 compressed biogas (CBG) plants worth more than ₹1,332 crore under the GOBARdhan scheme. This event will also mark the next phase of the national cleanliness initiative.
The program will engage local governments, women's groups, youth organizations, and community leaders, ensuring that the message of "Sampoorna Swachhata" reaches all parts of the country.
The theme for "Swachhata Hi Seva 2024" is "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata," reflecting a collective commitment to cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability.
Under "Swachhata Hi Seva 2024," over 19.7 lakh programs have been completed with participation from more than 17 crore individuals. Approximately 6.5 lakh cleanliness targets have been transformed, and nearly one lakh Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs have benefited over 30 lakh "safai mitras." Additionally, more than 45 lakh trees have been planted as part of the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" campaign.
