Does tirupati Devasthanam earn so many crores just by selling Laddu?
Every day, 3 lakh laddus are prepared on behalf of tirupati Devasthanam and distributed to the devotees. This is known as maha Prasad. The emotional connection between the tirupati Laddu and the people is very high in Tirupati. The method of making laddu in Devasthanam has been changed only six times in history. Initially, laddu was prepared and distributed in the tirupati Devasthanam using Bunthi Vellapagu. Later it was prepared by adding cashews, almonds, raisins, etc.
It was in this situation that a study conducted by the tirupati Devasthanam Laboratory last July found that the ghee supplied by AR Dairy Foods was of low quality. Meanwhile, it has been informed by the Devasthanam administration that they are taking steps to ensure that quality laddu is prepared in tirupati Devasthanam. Earlier, ghee was being purchased at the rate of Rs 320 per kg, but the Devasthanam administration has announced that it will now purchase ghee from the karnataka Federation at Rs 475 per kg. Senior IAS officer has been appointed by the government to ensure that the laddu served to the devotees is prepared in a quality manner.
