Outside voters have played an important role in delhi elections. The most talked about voters are from Purvanchal and punjabi voters. The total number of voters of both these communities in delhi is more than 1.5 crore, which is about 70 percent of the total voters. You can also guess the importance of punjab voters from the fact that till 1993, the people of the punjabi community used to decide who would sit in power in delhi in the delhi assembly elections.Out of the total 70 seats in delhi, punjab voters are considered to have a direct impact on the results of about 25 to 28 assembly constituencies.Whereas, there are 8 such assembly seats where punjabi voters are around 20%. The assembly constituencies of delhi which are affected by this are- Shahdara, Kalkaji, Malviya nagar, Lajpat nagar, Maharani Bagh, Subhash nagar, Hari nagar, Mayapuri, Narayana, Rajouri Garden, Moti nagar, New Rajinder nagar, Old Rajinder nagar, patel nagar, Karol Bagh, Vikaspuri, Janakpuri, Tilak nagar and punjabi Bagh.If we look into the past regarding the dominance of Punjabi community in delhi politics, then it is known that after independence, people from pakistan and some parts of punjab came and settled here, out of which a large number were Punjabis. When the state of Delhi was re-formed in the year 1991, Punjabis played an important role in the first election after that. bjp came to power here for the first time by winning the delhi elections with its political formula of Punjabi-Baniya and upper caste, at that time Madanlal Khurana of the punjabi community was made the CM.
