Usually, when a storm or flood occurs somewhere, many people think that the disaster does not cause much damage. However, only those who experience it in real life can understand the damage left by that storm. The 1996 Konaseema floods were not the only terror. Although it has been almost 28 years since this incident took place, this incident has filled many families with great sadness and has left immense pain. Hundreds of people lost their lives in these floods and lakhs of people became homeless. It is noteworthy that these floods caused losses of crores of rupees. On 6th november 1996, the people of Godavari districts were terrified due to the flood in Konaseema. This cyclone is also known as the Andhra Cyclone.
It is easy to understand the tragedy that this storm has left if the countries of the world have moved and offered a helping hand to the flood victims. The air system formed in the Bay of bengal turned into a cyclonic storm and made landfall near Konaseema, 53 km south of Kakinada. The situation can be understood if the strong winds blow with a gust of 215 kmph. It is noteworthy that the storm had a severe impact on 250 villages with waves up to 12 feet high. Another 1,380 villages were hit by heavy rain accompanied by gale-force winds, at which time all the fishing villages were completely wiped out. At that time, according to the estimate of an American company, the total loss of property was 4490 crore rupees. The eyes of people there are still filled with tears about the terror of the Konaseema cyclone. After this incident, the government has taken many measures to prevent such incidents from repeating.
