How did bjp win big in MCD ward committee elections?
The election for 12 members of delhi Municipal Corporation ward committees and standing committee was concluded peacefully on 4 september 2024 despite the clash between the Mayor and NG. The clash between the two did not have any effect on the election processes. With this, after the election of MCD zone committees, the way has been cleared for the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee, but the election of Chairman and Vice Chairman of this committee, which is said to be the most powerful of the Municipal Corporation, will be possible only when the MCD house elects a vacant member of the Standing Committee.
At present, the election results of 12 ward committees of MCD are not a good sign for the Aam Aadmi Party. In the elections held in 12 zones on Wednesday, AAP candidates were successful in winning elections in only five zones. Whereas bjp won in seven wards with some cross voting, which is going to boost the morale of bjp leaders and workers.
This is the equation of the Standing Committee
The total number of members in the Standing Committee of MCD is 18. Out of 18 members, 12 are elected from the 12 zones of MCD. While the remaining six are elected from the House. Out of these, only one post is vacant now. This post has become vacant due to bjp leader Kamaljeet Sehrawat winning from the West delhi seat. In this sense, 17 out of 18 members have been elected in the Standing Committee. Out of 17, nine members are from bjp and eight members are from Aam Aadmi Party. In this sense, the power game in the Standing Committee has now come in favor of BJP.
