The supreme court has refused to cancel the NEET exam where allegations of malpractice have arisen. The judges ruled that a re-examination could not be ordered as there was no evidence of malpractice to the extent of disrupting the entire system.
23 lakh people appeared for the NEET exam which was held on May 5 last for admission to medical students. Subsequently, when the results were announced on june 4, controversies arose including mercy marks. While the issue of question paper leak is in the limelight, various parties have filed a petition in the supreme court seeking to cancel the NEET exam due to irregularities. At that time, according to the CBI's investigation report, the judges said that the NEET question paper was leaked only in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh and Bihar's capital Patna, and till the investigation, 155 students had benefited from the question paper leak.
They also mentioned that they have analyzed the report provided by IIT chennai and center-wise examination results provided by the National Examinations Agency. The judges said that ordering a re-examination would affect more than 23 lakh students and said that if the examination is canceled, the coming academic year will be disrupted and will have dire consequences.

They also ordered the central government to take appropriate measures to prevent such irregularities from happening in the coming years. As a result, 4 lakh students who have grace marks have lost 5 marks each. The Chief Justice directed that the students who feel aggrieved by the mercy marks issue can approach the respective state high courts.
Meanwhile, Union education Minister dharmendra pradhan, speaking to the media, said that truth has prevailed in the NEET issue. He said that all those involved in malpractices will be punished and soon the National Examination Agency will be completely reformed. dharmendra pradhan pointed out that some state governments are acting contrary to the supreme court order and against the NEET exam, and accused some states of continuing to politicize the NEET issue and diverting the students.
