Honorary lecturers of colleges have not been paid for 9 months...Ramadoss

How can a 7 month paycheck take care of family expenses? Think a little! Ramadoss is obsessed!

Bharathidasan should either talk to the university authorities or allocate funds by the government to pay the salary balance due to all the 116 honorary lecturers immediately.

Ramadoss said that honorary lecturers who do the sacred work of teaching students should be paid monthly without delay.

In this regard, BAMA founder Ramadas issued a statement: 116 honorary lecturers working in 10 arts and science colleges, which have been converted into government colleges from Tiruchi Bharathidasan University's member colleges, have not been paid for the last 7 months. It is reprehensible that no action has been taken to pay the honorary lecturers who have written to the Secretary of Higher education in this regard.

Permanent professors working in Bharathidasan university, permanent teachers working in member colleges and honorary lecturers working in certain departments are being paid as usual without any interruption. But it is not only the Honorary Lecturers working in the Departments which have been started as Self-Funding Units that are paid. Will their wages be paid by the government or by the university? The problem is that the Honorary Lecturers are not paid.

While these 10 arts and science colleges were functioning as member colleges of Trichy Bharathidasan university, many courses were started in them which did not get government funding. Then their wages were paid by the university. After these member colleges were converted into government colleges a few years ago, the government accepted the salary of permanent teachers and teachers of government aided departments. However, the university continued to pay the ad-hoc honorary lecturers of self-financed courses. Salary has not been paid for 7 months now, no reason given.

Honorary lecturers should not be affected in conflict between the government and the university. All the Honorary Lecturers are from poor and middle class families. The salary given to them by the government is very low. How can they take care of the family expenses when they have not been paid for 7 months when they cannot cover the expenses for that month with their salary? The government and Bharathidasan university should think about it. It may be recalled that Muruganandam, an honorary lecturer working in the Villupuram government College of Arts committed suicide without money even for his treatment due to non-payment of salary for 5 months.

Honorary lecturers who do the sacred work of teaching students should be paid monthly without delay. Bharathidasan should either talk to the university authorities or allocate funds by the government to pay the salary balance due to all the 116 honorary lecturers immediately. Ramadoss said that the government should also ensure that they are paid on the last working day from this month.
