Tamil Nadu government has announced agricultural schemes for the cultivation of saffron as the mettur dam is yet to be opened. In a statement released by Agriculture minister MRK Panneer Selvam, mettur dam water, which is filled with monsoon rains, is traditionally opened on june 12 for the cultivation of paddy in the Cauvery delta districts of tamil Nadu. This year 2024 there is not enough water in mettur dam due to the delay of monsoon due to unforeseen circumstances.

Kuruvai Cultivation Special Collection

The tamil Nadu government will provide Rs.40 crore as a subsidy for planting paddy machinery at the rate of Rs.4,000 per acre and for an area of 1 lakh acres. 15 lakh will be provided for distribution of rice micronutrient mixture at 50 per cent subsidy in 7,500 acres of micronutrient deficient area. Besides, in zinc deficient areas, application of zinc sulphate fertilizer at the rate of Rs 250 per acre. 62 lakhs and 50 thousand rupees for an area of 25 thousand acres. 62 lakh 50 thousand rupees will be given as subsidy at the rate of 250 rupees per acre for the use of gypsum in 25 thousand acres.

Subsidized seeds

Agriculture minister MRK Panneer Selvam has said that Hon'ble tamil Nadu chief minister has ordered the implementation of Kuruvai Special Collection Project at an estimated cost of Rs.78.67 crores by getting funds from the government fund and integrating various projects.
