Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said on monday that maharashtra Agriculture minister Dhananjay Munde is on a foreign trip, while the farmers of the state are suffering from drought. Talking to reporters here before going to Jalna to review the drought situation, the leader of Opposition in the state assembly claimed that 267 farmers have committed suicide in the Marathwada region in the last three months and demanded that farmers' loans be waived.

Wadettiwar further said, "The Agriculture minister should review the availability of seeds, crops, fertilizers this month. But he went abroad leaving the farmers suffering from drought, which is unfortunate. How can he go in such a situation?' There is such a dire situation of drought and the government is fooling the people, farmers by saying that the model code of conduct is in force (in view of the lok sabha elections).

Wadettiwar said that the farmers of the state have also suffered due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms. The government orders a survey of crop loss but does not provide any aid to farmers. people in Marathwada are devastated by drought. In the last three months, 267 farmers have committed suicide in the region. people do not get drinking water here.

Wadettiwar demanded that farmers' loans and electricity bills be waived and seeds be provided to them for free. He said that cattle should be provided water and fodder. Wadettiwar claimed that this is a sin that the Modi government is committing. He said that the prices of seeds have increased by 25 to 38 per cent and subsidy on fertilisers has been cancelled.
