Space travel: India's Gopi Thotakura back!!!

Indian aviator and commercial pilot Gopi Thotakura recently created history by traveling to space. Gopi has become India's first space tourist. Even though he lives in America, he has made india proud. Also, the doors have opened for other people to travel to space in the future.

Gopi Thotakura took off in a spacecraft of a company named Blue Origin on 19 May 2024 to enjoy a space trip. Blue Origin is one of the few private companies that give this opportunity to people who want to travel in space. The entire journey took only ten minutes from takeoff to landing. During this time the spacecraft reached about 105 km above the earth. This was one of the shortest and fastest journeys to space. This is definitely a big achievement which is forcing many people to think whether it will now be easy for common people to travel to space?

What is this space tourism?

Space tourism is a part of the aviation industry whose aim is to give a unique experience of space travel to common people. Traveling to space is completely different from the world of airplanes. In this, you are shown a glimpse of space by sitting in a real spacecraft. This can be for entertainment, tourism or even for any business purpose. Space travel usually starts at an altitude of about 100 km from the earth. This is the height from where you cross the 'Karman line'. This line is considered to be the boundary between the earth's atmosphere and outer space. Things flying below this line are called airplanes while things crossing this line are called spacecraft.

There are two types of tours in space tourism: suborbital and orbital. In suborbital trips, you are taken to the edge of space where you can experience weightlessness for a few minutes. Gopi Thotakura also took one such suborbital flight. In orbital trips, you are taken into orbit around the Earth. This gives you a chance to see the Earth from space and experience weightlessness for a long time.
