How did IAS Vikrant Pandey become UPSC topper?

Alumni from across the country and abroad have arrived in Kota to participate in the two-day alumni meet. In this sequence, Senior IAS officer Dr. Vikrant Pandey, Joint Secretary, Union home Ministry, New Delhi, reached Kota to participate in the alumni meet. On this occasion, Joint Secretary Dr. Vikrant Pandey told the students that the coaching system here gives you the power to recognize your hidden potential. It depends on you how well you come out under pressure.

Union Secretary motivated the students

Senior IAS officer Dr. Vikrant Pandey said that I did my schooling through hindi medium in Bakani town of Jhalawar district. The teacher father said that I could not become a doctor, you try. Taking inspiration from his values, I came to Kota in 1996 and started preparing for PMT. He said that after coming from the village to the city, he studied living alone in a rented room.

Regarding the importance of teachers, Dr. Vikrant Pandey said that teachers in Kota boosted the morale a lot. Got selected in the first attempt itself. While doing MBBS from Udaipur, he dreamed of becoming an IAS. Was not successful in the interview in the first attempt, but did not give up because of Kota coaching and got selected in UPSC with a good rank in the second attempt. While in civil service for the last 19 years, he was the district Collector of Balsad, Bharuch and Ahmedabad. These days I am serving in the home Ministry, New Delhi.

'Coaching creates confidence in students'

In response to a question, Dr. Vikrant Pandey said that our entire life is a competition. There will be long lines at every stop, you stand like a rock, assume that your seat is fixed. I have to work 100 percent. I gave UPSC exam in 2005, at that time there were 11 lakh candidates for 50 IAS posts. He said that the spirit should be such that no matter how many players are there in the field to stop you, you have to send your ball outside the boundary only. The coaching system does not lay velvet in your path, creates the strength to bear pressure or pain. He said that coaching makes students very strong from within. The confidence gained from Kota coaching also came in handy in the IAS interview.
