Pendurthi's Tradition: Worth Breaking?

Pendurthi constituency, established in 1978, boasts a unique electoral trend where a new data-face has been elected as mla in every election since its inception. This pattern has remained consistent over the years, with no candidate winning a second term. Spanning across Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts, pendurthi has a diverse demographic makeup, comprising both rural and urban voters, totalling 303,581 in number.

Despite this historical trend, the upcoming 2024 election holds the promise of breaking this convention. The entry of experienced candidates from prominent parties like ycp and Janasena, who have previously served as MLAs in pendurthi, suggests a shift in the electoral landscape. With these two major contenders in the fray, the chances for other parties, including congress and independent candidates, appear slim.

Sitting mla Annamreddy Adipraj, representing ycp, seeks re-election in pendurthi, while Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, who previously won the seat under the praja rajyam Party banner in 2009, is contesting from Janasena. pendurthi constituency encompasses Pedagantyada, Paravada, Sabbavaram, and pendurthi mandals, featuring a blend of urban and rural settings.

The area has witnessed significant real estate development, particularly in the pendurthi suburb, amidst rising land prices in Visakhapatnam. Additionally, Paravada Pharma City has emerged as a key employment hub, contributing to the constituency's economic landscape.
