It is the responsibility of the election commission as well as the legislature, executive and judiciary to maintain the confidence of the citizens of the country in the electoral system and process. The sole purpose of such a system in the Constitution is to ensure that the entire electoral process remains free and fair. Electoral system does not just mean the process of voting. The electoral system includes the election related activities of political parties. The common people of the country are part of it as voters.

From political donations to the process adopted by political parties to seek votes and the method of campaigning, all this is a part of the electoral system. If there is any disturbance anywhere in all these dimensions, then the fairness of the elections is directly questioned and in many ways it becomes an issue of tampering with civil rights.

The message contained in the supreme court order

The questions raised by the supreme court in the order related to electoral bonds and chandigarh Mayor elections are very serious. The supreme Court's order is not limited to declaring electoral bonds unconstitutional and directing to make the name of the donor public or correcting the result by terming the actions of the presiding officer in chandigarh as wrong. In this, there is also a message for the election commission, the government and all the political parties from the point of view of the future. The message is clear that neither the political parties nor the government have the right to tamper with the dignity of the electoral system or the electoral process.
