Fresh violence broke out on thursday (February 22) in the violence-hit Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. people set on fire a house belonging to the brother of local Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who has been accused of sexually harassing women. 15 days have passed since continuous protests and tense atmosphere here. West bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee herself had informed in the state assembly that 17 people have been arrested in Sandeshkhali. He had said that the police have taken extra vigilance in the area and no one who poses a challenge to law and order will be spared.

'Only one person is at the root of the problem'

A day earlier, during the hearing on wednesday (February 21), the calcutta High court had commented that only one person Sheikh Shahjahan is responsible for the deteriorating situation in Sandeshkhali and the police is not able to catch him. He is absconding after his supporters attacked the Enforcement Directorate team that had gone to raid Shahjahan's house on january 5. Only after this, local women have accused Shahjahan and his associates of sexual harassment of women and forceful land acquisition for years, due to which people all over the country are raising questions on the working style of the state administration.

Trinamool leader Shibu Hazra: Shivprasad Hazra alias Shibu Hazra has been arrested. A fresh complaint of rape has also been registered against Hazra at Sandeshkhali police station. The complaint was filed on monday after the intervention of the National Commission for Women.
