History is being repeated once again in the indian national congress after 58 years. Former party national president and congress Parliamentary party President sonia gandhi filed nomination for Rajya Sabha. sonia gandhi, who formally started her political career in 1999, will go to rajya sabha for the first time. Till now she was the congress mp from Rae bareli in UP. This will be sonia Gandhi's first term in the Upper house after completing five terms as a lok sabha MP.

The 77-year-old congress leader has been representing Uttar Pradesh's Rae bareli in the Lok Sabha. She will not contest the next general elections. After assuming the post of congress President in 1999, she was elected mp for the first time.

sonia gandhi is the second member of the gandhi family who has gone to rajya sabha in the last 75 years. Before this, former prime minister indira gandhi had gone to Rajya Sabha. indira gandhi became a member of the rajya sabha in august 1964 and remained in the Upper house till february 1967.

Indira was also the leader of the parliamentary party in 1980.

Later indira gandhi was a member of the lok sabha during the fourth, fifth and sixth sessions. She was elected to the Seventh lok sabha in january 1980 from Rae bareli (UP) and medak (Andhra Pradesh). He decided to retain the medak seat and left the Rae bareli seat. He was elected leader of the congress Parliamentary party in the year 1967-77 and again in january 1980. Talking about sonia gandhi, she had announced in the year 2019 that this would be her last lok sabha election. There is speculation that after sonia gandhi does not contest the elections this time, her daughter priyanka gandhi Vadra may contest the elections from Rae bareli lok sabha constituency. sonia gandhi decided to contest elections from rajasthan instead of southern states like telangana or Karnataka. In rajasthan, the party is in a position to easily win one of the three seats.
