PM Modi unveils development projects worth Rs 11,600 crore in Assam

Prime minister Narendra Modi unveiled several development projects in assam on sunday worth nearly Rs 11,600 crore that will help boost employment and tourism in the northeastern state. Some of the major projects for which foundation stones were laid are the Kamakhya temple corridor, the six-lane road from the new airport terminal in Guwahati, the upgradation of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards and a new sports complex in Chandrapur.

Addressing a public meeting at the Veterinary college Playground in Khanapara here, he said. “The inauguration of projects worth Rs 11,000 crore, will strengthen the connectivity of assam, northeast with other countries of South Asia. These projects will increase employment opportunities in the tourism sector.” The prime minister made these remarks after holding a roadshow.

“For political benefits, they started a trend of being ashamed of their own culture and history. No country can progress by neglecting its history. But, in the last ten years the situation in the country has changed,” he said. “Our pilgrimages, our temples, our places of faith, these are not just places to visit. These are indelible signs of our civilization’s journey of thousands of years. This is a testimony to how india stood firm in the data-face of every crisis,” he added. The second edition of Asom Mala roads was also kick-started by the PM. This phase will comprise 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges, entailing a total investment of Rs 3,444 crore. Besides, Modi laid the foundation stone for an integrated new building of the Gauhati Medical college and Hospital, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,250 crore. He also laid the foundation stones for the proposed Karimganj Medical college and Hospital, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 578 crore and the Rs 297-crore Unity Mall in Guwahati.
