The Hindu side claims that somnath Vyas's family has been worshiping here till 1993. The then mulayam singh yadav government had stopped the puja in december 1993. In this situation, he has got justice after 30 years. Ancient statues of gods and goddesses of Hindu religion are present in the basement. Here we are telling you about all the matters related to Gyanvapi on the basis of the claims of Hindu and Muslim sides. Meanwhile the temple-mosque dispute in Gyanvapi and the matter of Vyasji worshiping in the basement are two different cases. Vyasji's basement is located to the south of Gyanvapi mosque near Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. It was the year 1819 when there was british rule. There were riots between Hindus and Muslims in Varanasi. To calm the dispute, the british gave the upper part of the Gyanvapi complex to the Muslims and the basement located in the lower part to the Hindus. The then Magistrate of varanasi had handed over the responsibility of worship in the basement to the Vyas family living next to Gyanvapi. Because the Vyas family was worshiping here since the year 1551. After this, somnath Vyas's family continued worshiping here till 1993.

After the demolition of Babri in ayodhya in 1992, in 1993, on the orders of the UP government, the administration cordoned off the Gyanvapi mosque with iron barricades. The way to enter the mosque was kept open only through one main gate. In this way the way to Vyasji's basement was closed. After this, worship could not be held here for 30 years. In 2022, when the court ordered a survey of Gyanvapi, Shailendra Kumar Pathak, a member of somnath Vyas ji's family, filed a petition and asked for the right to worship in the basement again. Finally, on january 31, 2023, he got permission from the court.
