Elections for chandigarh Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor was held on Thursday.BJP has fielded Manoj Sonkar for the post of Mayor, while AAP has made kuldeep Kumar Tita its candidate.The contest for the post of Senior Deputy Mayor will be between Kuljeet Sandhu of bjp and Gurpreet Singh Gabi of Congress.BJP has fielded Rajinder Sharma for the post of Deputy Mayor, while Nirmala Devi is the candidate from the congress party.A day before the elections, senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha and senior congress leader pawan kumar Bansal met in Chandigarh.BJP has 14 councilors in the 35-member chandigarh Municipal Corporation. There is also an ex-officio member mp (Kirron Kher) who has the right to vote.Municipal Corporation has 13 councilors from AAP and seven from Congress. Shiromani Akali Dal has a councilor in the House.The Municipal Corporation office has informed that mobile phones and cameras will not be used in the assembly hall during voting.The councilors elect the mayor through secret vote. However, cross voting cannot be ruled out.Congress was absent from voting in 2022 and 2023. Due to which bjp got victory in the mayor's election.Elections for three posts are held every year. The tenure of the Municipal Corporation house is five years.This year the post of Mayor has been reserved for the Scheduled Caste.The senior congress leader said that due to the alliance with AAP, the number of their councilors has increased to 20. Therefore they will get victory.
