CM Shinde gave these instructions
In view of the strike by truck drivers, the maharashtra Government has requested the police to ensure uninterrupted supply of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders in the market. Truck drivers are protesting against a provision of the new penal law regarding 'hit-and-run' accident cases involving motorists. The indian Judicial Code (BNS), which replaced the colonial-era indian Penal Code, provides that drivers who cause serious road accidents by negligent driving and run away without informing the police or any administration official can be punished with imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of Rs seven lakh.
Shortage of petrol and diesel in Maharashtra
Maharashtra's Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has written to all police commissioners and superintendents of police, expressing concern over the strike and its impact on the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders. Considering the impact of the strike, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has requested the police to take necessary steps to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supply of these products. The department has also appealed to truck drivers not to get involved in untoward incidents and not to disturb the law and order situation.
