Land Scam Case: CM Soren did not appear even after 6 summons

kungumapriya
ED is now considering options for warrant and action against jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. Soren has

ignored six summons of ED. He sent reply letter on every date of summons, but he did not appear before the

agency for questioning. The agency is now consulting legal experts on the options for issuing a warrant against

him from the court and arresting him. The ED, which is probing the land scam, had issued the last summons to

Soren on december 10 and asked him to appear at the agency’s zonal office in ranchi on december 12 at 11 am.

Extensive security arrangements were made regarding the possibility of Soren reaching the ED office. There was a

commotion outside the ED office the whole day, but Soren did not appear. He went to ranchi Airport at 3 pm,

passing right in front of the ED office and from there left for Dumka via helicopter, where he was to attend a pre-

planned program under the Aapki Sarkar, Aapke Dwar campaign. Addressing the gathering in Dumka, Soren said

without mentioning the ED summons, “Some people were doubtful whether I would be here today at this event or

not, but I am among you.”

Soren had challenged in the supreme Court

It is noteworthy that cm Hemant Soren had challenged the summons being sent by ED in the supreme Court. The

Supreme court had asked him to go to the high court without hearing his petition. After this, he filed a writ

petition in the jharkhand high court requesting to cancel the ED summons, but the division bench of Chief Justice

Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice anand Sen rejected his request on october 13 and refused to stay the summons.

. During the hearing in the high court, Additional Solicitor General sv Raju, on behalf of the ED, had said in his

argument that cm Soren has already violated the summons. He did not appear on any summons of ED. In such a

situation, there is no justification for him to challenge the summons, hence he cannot be given relief.
