On the eve of the beginning of the winter session of the maharashtra Legislature, opposition parties on Wednesdayboycotted the traditional tea party here, alleging that the government has failed to deal with the agrarian crisis,riots and drug trafficking. Speaking to reporters in nagpur, leader of Opposition in maharashtra Assembly VijayWadettiwar cited the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to target the government. TheCongress leader said, “We received an invitation from the state government for the tea party, but we feel it wouldbe inappropriate to attend it. We have decided to boycott this event.”opposition's allegationAs per tradition, the winter session of the state legislature is held every year in nagpur, the second capital ofMaharashtra. Citing NCRB data, Wadettiwar claimed that 22,746 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtradue to agricultural distress and debt. He said, “The government has failed to solve the agricultural crisis inMaharashtra. There is no control on large-scale drug trafficking in the state. NCRB data also shows that 8,218cases of riots were registered in the state (in 2022). In such an environment, will new investment come to ourstate?”What did the congress leaders say?The congress leader alleged that the state government has not even given financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to eachfarmer who suffered loss due to crop failure last year. He said, “The way this government declared drought in 40tehsils, it raises suspicion that this step is politically motivated. It appears that these tehsils have been selectedkeeping some politicians in mind. Earlier in the day, opposition parties held a meeting in nagpur to discuss theagenda of the winter session. Issues like demand for maratha reservation and crop loss are likely to dominate thesession in the next 10 days.
