He was 99. "Charlie Munger, who served as vice chairman of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway for decades, died peacefully at a california hospital," the company said.


Mourning his death, warren buffett eulogized that "without Charlie's inspiration, wisdom and participation, Berkshire Hathaway could not have been built to what it is today."

Like Buffett, charlie Munger was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. The two met in 1959 and remained friends for over 60 years.Charlie Munger joined Berkshire Hathaway in 1978 as a vice president and helped transform it from a small textile company into a giant that is now valued at more than $780 billion.


However unlike Warren Buffett's vast wealth, charlie Munger's net worth is estimated at a more modest $2.6 billion, although he has donated much of his wealth to charity during his lifetime.

Charlie Munger hasn't officially retired from Berkshire Hathaway, and news of his death has come on january 1, 2024, when he would have turned 100. His death is also being mourned by various investors. In a 2017 interview with warren buffett, he thanked charlie Munger for changing his thinking about investing. Speaking at the time, he said, “He refined them in a big way by looking for quality companies and the ability to make investments that would work for five or 10 or 20 years.


Charlie Munger is strong minded and I am strong minded. We've never had an argument in that entire time, and we never will. It was a lot of fun working with Charlie,” he added.
